Shit You Should Care About

Aotearoa’s pre-eminent media platform for millennials and Gen Z wanted a new site and someone to contribute to their universe.

Helping the
world give a shit.

Ok, this one’s a biggie. Shit You Should Care About is a leading independent media company specialising in helping Gen Z understand our complex spinning world.

Boasting over 3.6 million followers, I’ve been fortunate to be a part of their universe in a whole range of different roles, from contributing to their newsletter, podcasts and promotional collateral.

Website concept + copy

Alongside the crew at Daylight, I also helped concept and copywrite SYSCA’s new website, based on an immersive animated experience that emulates the chaos of news, pop culture and social media.

It was all about telling SYSCA’s unique story of how it came to be, giving it a hectic, feminine, digital and buzzy feeling that its fan base knows and loves so well.

Newsys

I also contribute to the SYSCA universe, too. I write the weekly ‘Bel Chimes In’ newsletter that goes to over 70,000 subscribers, co-run the Shit You Should Read About Book Club, as well as write the Sunday newsy, ‘No News Is Good News’.

These are all designed to be fun, community-led projects that make followers, fans and subscribers feel a part of something — and like their hobbies, interests and opinions are always valued and supported.

Plus, they continue to be some of the cutest corners on the internet.

Podcasting

I also guest co-host on the podcast mic on both The Shit Show, and Culture Vulture, where we deep dive into anything and everything from Succession, the permacrisis, pop stars getting cancelled on-stage, cultural events and anything else that’s worked its way into the zeitgeist.
